Totally agree, Dan! In my company, the first thing we’ve tried to do is to measure business impact (the outcome) in terms of revenue and cost for each product line. I think that’s real productivity, and it’s the most important thing we need in order to assess our situation.

I believe interim data in terms of how much progress has been made so far (the output) and how we’re getting there would definitely be helpful to make tactical adjustments along the way, though it definitely should not be used as hard targets.
